Theatre 21 foundation

Theatre 21 was established in 2005. The team consists of students and graduates of the Social Special Schools ‘Give a Chance’ team, people with Down syndrome and autism. Initially, the group worked on non-typical school plays by Nativity songs, with time they began to perform their own performances. Most of them were created on the basis of their own scenarios developed during the rehearsals. In 11 years, additional theatre classes have changed into a job for which the actors receive a salary. Teatr 21 is the only theater of this type in Poland.

Establishing a professional theatre opened new possibilities for systematic and intense artistic work and allowed the band to appear on the stages of public theaters. The actors and creators of Theater 21 needed a place ideal for creative searches and social meetings, a safe space for bolder and closer encounters with each other and the viewer.
